4-H enrollment for the 2009-2010 year due NOW!!! (The new year began October 1, 2009)

If you haven't already enrolled please stop in and fill out your enrollment form along with paying your dues or you can print, fill out and mail to the Extension Office (PO BOX 720, Morgan).

Attention Livestock Members-If you are planning on attending the Jr. Livestock June Show please fill out your entry form and mail or bring into the office. We would like everyone participating signed up before May 1, 2010. **Swine projects do NOT have to submit and entry form** Most of you do not have your animals yet and that's fine please just let me know if you are going to show and how many animals we can get the details later.

Meet Your New Agent

Hello Morgan County!

My name is Amanda Horrocks and I was hired by Utah State University Extension as the FCS/4-H Agent for Morgan County. I love extension and am thrilled to be here living here in this beatiful area.

A little bit about me:

I was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho
I received my undergraduate degree in Family Finance from Utah State University and am currently working on my master's thesis studying the money management strategies of couples.
Summer of 2009 I worked as an actress at the Playmill Theatre in West Yellowstone. We perfrormed Footloose, Guys and Dolls and The Secret Garden.
I enjoy all sports (particularly volleyball), scrapbooking, theatre, travel, organizing, decorating and spending time with family and friends.

I got my start in extension in 2007 working for the Cache County office. I was employed as the graduate intern when the position came up for the hire here in Morgan.

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. Particiapting youth, from grades 3rd-12th, and adult volunteers and leaders "learn by doing" through opportunities in which they gain a sense of belonging within a positive group, cultivate independence with guidance from caring adults and peers, and master life challenges.

The Primary goal in 4-H is to assist youth in developing life skills that help them live productive and satisfying lives. Some important life skills include making decisions, solving problems, relating to others, planning and organizing, communicating with others, leading self and others, and applying science and technology. Being part of a 4-H club is one of the most meaningful ways to participate in 4-H. Youth can also be involved in special interest, school enrichment, and mentoring programs sponsored by 4-H.

Mission Statement: Assist youth in acquiring knowledge, building character, and developing life skills in a fun learning environment that will enable them to become self-directing, productive members of society.

How do I join?

1. BRING TOGETHER a group of young people with similar interests and an adult leader to guide the club. Teens are encouraged to become youth leaders. No previous experience is necessary, just the desire to have fun and learn together as a club.

2. CHOOSE A PROJECT of interest to your group. There are over 100 projects to choose from, or create your own. Contact the 4-H office if you need project ideas. Decide on a name for your club. Choose a day and time to meet that fits the needs of the group.

3. ENROLL A GROUP at your USU County Extension Office by completing an enrollment sheet, paying dues, and picking up club project materials.

4. MEET & LEARN together to complete selected projects. Enter members' finished projects in the County Fair. Learning will be enhanced by including community service projects. Explore other 4-H events, activities and trips.

*4-H Age Guidelines: Official 4-H members are in the third grade through twelfth grade on January 1st of the current year.
